I have plans to build a new computer with new ryzen 5900x, Asus x570 tuf plus, Asus RTX 3080 tuf, a 360 AIO (prob corsair elite capellix), 8 fans in the case. So based on this:

Q: Will my powersupply work with the new RTX 3000 Cards

  • A: NVIDIA gave the recommended power supply wattage's for use with the RTX cards  when paired with the most power hungry mainstream CPU in their presentation. These are 650W for the 3070 and 750W for the 3080 and 3090. The cards themselves take 220W, 320W and 350W respectively. Depending on your CPU, motherboard and other components most systems will not go past around 200~250w so if you are above 750w you are almost guaranteed to be fine unless you run a Threadripper or Xeon system. For everything else 650W will be perfectly fine even with a 3090.

I have a Seasonic Focus Plus gold 650w in my old computer. Do I need upgrade it for the new computer if also I want to do a moderate overlock to CPU/GPU??

650w is way too less for a 3080, i would recommend a 1000w as that was found to be working alright, the recommended being 750w.

750W Min for a 3080. The ASUS TUF is a 2X 8 Pin card so you would be fine.

Some of the cards pull a lot more power than people think they do.

My 3080 FTW3 Ultra (3X 8 Pin) pulls every bit of 400W and that's not OCed. (EVGA is currently working on a firmware update to boost the power limit even higher)

My max total system power draw from the PSU to the system (not from the wall) with the 3080 is 692W not including power spikes that are much higher.

Gaming loads are over 550W+, not including power spikes.

I wouldn't go much higher than a 850W PSU unless it's a 3090 and 10900K and OCing both then maybe a 1000W PSU isn't out of the question.

That's a good PSU. You'll be just fine to continue using it.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora
