Asus DSL-AC68U does it work as a standalone modem?

Hi,

Just planning on fixing my Wifi coverage and performance throughout my home.

My current setup is a Huawei HG659 modem which then is connected to my Asus RT-AC88U router. My plan is to buy a new Modem preferably Asus to utilise the AiMesh feature so only need to use one dual band SSID.

Just wanting to know whether the Asus DSL-AC68U modem will work on its own without the need of the my Internet providers modem (Huawei HG659) connected to it.

Also Im from Australia and I'm using a service called NBN Fibre to the node because I've also read storys of lots of problem when setting up Asus modems with it. (https://www.nbnco.com.au/ )

Any help on this would be great.

Cheers.

Thats up to the ISP. If the ISP allows customer owned modems/gateways then it might work. Some ISP's provide a supported device list that will list all supported models.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I'll have a look at my ISP website. I'll get back to you.

These are the modem's my ISP provides support for https://www.tpg.com.au/helpdesk/modem_support.php.

Found another intresting thread on another forum about the Australian NBN supported modems https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/fttn_registered_modem_router#vdsl2_modem_routers_isp_setting
