I have the Eluktronics MAX-17 laptop

  • i7-10875H 2.3GHz
  • RTX 2070 mobile
  • 16 GB 2933 MHz memory

Monitor setup:

  • Laptop screen (1920x1080 144Hz)
  • Shitty Dell monitor I stole (1600x900 60Hz) connected via HDMI

I've tweaked the system to run the laptop at peak power and forced usage of the discreet GPU in the BIOS. When I play any AAA games (Destiny, Siege, etc.) I get great performance and everything looks fine in the Task Manager. 50-60 % CPU usage and 99% GPU usage.

However, when I fire up Warzone, my CPU usage shoots up to 95% and GPU usage never goes above 5%.

I've scoured the internet for anything that can be of help but I can't seem to find an answer.

I've tried:

  • Closing out all other apps/programs in the background (not streaming gameplay)
  • Have all in-game graphics settings maxxed out
  • Changing the priority of the game in Task Manager to High, Normal, and Low - none of these changes yielded a result
  • Changed the laptop power profile to have max performance
  • Changed the 3D settings in Nvidia Control Panel to max performance
  • Turned off all Nvidia overlays
  • Played the game in Fullscreen mode

The only thing that seemed to have made a difference was re-enabling the MSHybrid setting in the BIOS (hybrid use of the iGPU and dGPU). this knocked the CPU usage down to around 75% and brought the GPU usage up to no more than 30%

All other games function perfectly with the exact same monitor setup I try to play Warzone with.

Through all my tweaking, I've managed to get the game to play at 1080p 150fps according to the in-game fps counter. The actual gameplay is great and looks amazing, but I don't want my CPU pedal-to-the-metal while my GPU sits by on lunch break.

This leads my to my final question: Could there be something about Warzone that makes Task Manager report incorrect numbers? How can my GPU be at <5% usage but my game still be at 1080p 150fps?

NOTE: Included screenshot is with MSHybrid mode turned on

Click on the arrow next to any of the charts and select cuda. What is the utilization at on there?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

During gameplay at 120fps the cuda usage was 0%

I must be remembering it wrong then. Try all of the options and see if any of them have high usage.

Ok so I didn't change any settings but now I'm running at 180 fps avg. How is it getting better? lol

And all of those drop downs are basically 0% except for Graphics_1 which was pegged at 99% the whole game

So that is likely the part of the gpu that is being used by the game and why the other usage is not higher. I have no idea why it would increase the FPS, but maybe someone else can explain?
