Build a case from scratch

I am an aircraft mechanic by trade and education, and I also run a small vintage pc shop. I had the idea to make my own pc cases but figured I'd like around for some tips, tricks or advice for beginners.

 

My background is heavy in sheet metal forming by hand, and I also have been working on computers for almost 20 years, just gives you an idea of where my skill is at for those tossing advice.

 

I'm excited to see what I can come up with, especially with your guys help!

what aspect do you need help with as most of us just buy cases and arent going to have much in the way of custom sheet metal bending experience.

I'm looking for ideas on designs, materials, fasteners, and finishes. Maybe even techniques or attempts by other people.

To start, a good bet would be to buy a 30$ Newegg special and tear it down completely. 

 

They're mostly shaped sheet metal, with the least special tooling. 

 

Mostly held together with rivets. 

 

Probably the best starting point.

I have 40-50 cases in my inventory from 1970's to modern day, but if I wanted to make a regular ol' case I would have lol.

 

I'm just looking for ideas that are outside the bun. Lol

Well, like what?  You're not giving us much to go on, other than you're good at working with sheet metal lol
