Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and was wondering what y'all think of this build I've been planning out. I don't know if I'll go through with this as I'm also considering getting a(nother) laptop; my current one is on its last legs. Without further ado, here it is:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Mobo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Drives: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Backup drive?: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Graphics: Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case

PSU: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Wireless card: Rosewill N900PCE 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

If you couldn't tell, I did this through PCPartPicker, here's the link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/36CAw

This is for CAD, audio production/recording, gaming and productivity/web surfing.

I'll be going to college/university in September if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any input!

get only 8 GB of ram and a 4670k, and use that money for a better graphic card, gtx 770 ;)

also, pick an msi gaming card, you will get vga boost with your msi gaming motherboard, and it will look much nicer

Good, although I would spend slightly more if you're going to overclock that processor.

What specifically?

Processing power is more important to me than graphics. The 760 is good enough for what I need.

I looked at the msi 760 and it said it was too long for the Phantom 410. I guess if I'm not putting a fan by the drive slots it'll be fine. I'll look into that.

Do you have any preference of color? the kingston ram's not the cheapest you can get, there's cheaper ram for 16gb of 1600mhz and stuff.

Ideally red and black. I haven't put any effort into executing that yet though. and yeah, 233mhz wouldn't make too much of a difference.

The only thing i would change is the power supply. The CX series isn't the best from what I heard. Good build overall, here's the link with the different power supply. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/36WTR

They're great for a budget PSU. Even better when you swap out the stock fan for a Noctua.

The power supply i chose is cheaper, fully modular, and certified gold. IMO I would opt for the RM series over the CX series any day.
