I presume most people have seen jaystwocents video on the 3080 AIB crashes by now.

In this video he says that the ASUS TUF 3080 had the more expensive caps which preform well (pictured here)

However I found the cheaper caps clearly shown in marketing photos of the TUF

This photo is from canada computers listing of the card (newegg.ca has a similar photo). Does anyone have this card and can they confirm which caps it has?

My quick theory is the better caps were only given to reviewers but I don't know.

Thanks for any input on this!

not sure about this but heard some people in reddit saying the pictures sent to PR team in asus was old and new cards had the good caps

but this is easy to check since there are non reviewers with this cards that can tell us if they have the cheap or good caps

There is a thread on Reddit about this.

Both reviewers and actual owners of ASUS cards report getting the good caps so the general consensus is that the press photos were of prototypes.

Current build: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, ASUS PRIME X570-Pro, EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra, G.Skill 2x16GB 3600C16 DDR4, Samsung 980 Pro 1TB, Sabrent Rocket 1TB, Corsair RM750x, Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B, Phanteks Enthoo Pro M, LG 27GL83A-B

Yeah, it seems your right. This is awesome though. Hope they don't jack up the price for it once people find out about this.

I was literally just about to post this very same thread. Showing the difference between what reviewers have been tearing down, and what all the promo material says. I have been using TUF boards since... 3770k and they have all been extremely reliable. I miss the thermal shielding on the newest non-x299 versions. Software (ai-suite) is good when it works, though when it works seems to be never. :/

I wanted a TUF 3080 or 3090 BEFORE seeing the problems, now I want one even more. Idk if I'm happy it will be the most reliable, or sad it will be harder to get. Hopefully the 3070 comes out and the pressure will be off, except in winter time my job goes into overtime from nov til January :/ so it's the worst time of year for me.
