If you're talking about the Molex power plug, you can adapt it to SATA power, but that doesn't get you any more ports on your motherboard.

The ports on your board are for data, while Molex is for power.

 

If you have 6 SATA ports on the board, you've already used 6 of them with your current drives, assuming none of those are M.2 SATA. What you use for power doesn't matter as you have no free data ports. 

 

You can use a PCIe SATA controller to add more data ports if you need.

Molex is generally only designed for Power, not data. Since you have 6 Sata Ports, youll only be allowed the 6 drives. This will also reduce your PCIE lanes, check your motherboard manual to see. It goes the other way around, If you plug in all m.2 Connectors on your boards with PCIE drives, you will usually be reduced 2 SATA ports. 

 

You could try installing a PCIE SSD Card instead of a m.2 Variant, but again PCIE lanes could be the limiting factor.

Molex and SATA are both 5v so there's nothing wrong there. It's only when you try stuff like Molex/SATA to PCIe or CPU Power do you start running into issues.

oh use el cheapo ones.

seeing some external drives  have a some what cleaver way of drm the drive.  data horder has a read on it. to get around it. simple use said cable above . a good one and working drive now.

Yeah, adapters that use MOLDED connectors tend to melt and cause problems at high currents and power.

But you can buy adapters that use crimped connectors like the picture above (crimped = wires are connected to pins with crimping tools basically using pressure to connect wire to metal pins, and the pins are inserted into housing) and a SSD typically uses 1-2 watts on idle and reading and up to maybe 5-8w when writing data for long periods of time. So basically, very small amount.

Molded connectors ... the wires are spot welded to pins , pins are put in a plastic form and then the housing is injection molded around the plastic form ... if the wires and pins overheat due to too much power going through the connector, the plastic of the housing can overheat and deform and then the pins inside  could move and touch each other ,,, with crimped connectors the housing often has thicker walls between the pins.
