PC upgrade help/advice needed :)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

Current build: i5 6600 @3.30Ghz, gtx1060 OC 3gb, z170A asus motherboard, 12Gb hyperx RAM, 80Bronze 500W power supply, playing on 1920x1080 144hz.

I want to purchase the coming RTX3070, I checked PC part picker and it says the 3070 is compatible with my current motherboard so I am not looking to upgrade that if not needed(even if it results in reduced performance).

What I do know is that nvidia recommends a 650W power supply so I was planning to buy the cooler master 650W bronze semi modular power supply, since its quite cheap on newegg.

 

Up till now I still run a default cpu intel fan, I was wondering if I need to change that, and if I should change my pc exit fan as well. And are there any other things I should take note of.

Bronze cooler master isn't a good idea for such a high end gpu.

Go for a gold corsair or bequiet.

Or anything tier a or b in the psu tier list in my signature

Just bear in mind, at 1080p your cpu will struggle to keep up with the 3070, so you won't get the most out of the new card

Consider a used GPU, the market should pickup in the coming months and if people are realistic you could get something like a 2080S/2080Ti for a great deal.

Also 1080p 144Hz makes no sense with a 3070, I would recommend no less than 1440p 144Hz, otherwise you are leaving a ton of performance on the table. If you change nothing but your GPU a used 2070S would be the best buy for your specs and use.

It wont cause any damage to the system right? Im thinking this as a start for a whole pc upgrade, so I will eventually get a new motherboard and cpu. I just want to get a new gpu first so that I can play in higher fps. And since the new 3070 is coming and is only 499 I just thought why not.

I mean, the games are competitive and only needs higher fps and the only resolution i would use in the game is 1920x1080 so there is no reason for me to go 1440p. And I currently don't mind the excess performance. I do plan on upgrading my cpu and motherbaord in the future. I was just wondering if it would cause any system damage. If there is no problem with adding the 3070 to my current system with the addition of a better power supply then I'm not too concerned with (not max gpu)performance as long as no damage will occur.

But you only have a 144Hz 1080p monitor. A 2070S would max that out at ultra settings. If you got a used 2080Ti that would ensure you still max it out with future titles.

 

I would recommend a 650W unit, and a better quality unit at that. Refer to this list:

I recommend Tier B at minimum if you decide you want a 3070.

No, a powerful gpu won't cause any damage.

What can cause damage is a bad psu

yes, this one is very good.

The RMx PSU's are Tier A, so this is a good choice.
