Ultimate Question:  AMD or Intel

Background:

Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth 990FX r3.0

CPU - AMD FX8370  4.334GHz

Ram - 32GB  (Memory Speed: 1066.1 MHz (DDR3-2132 / PC3-17000)

GPU - Asus Strix 2080ti

PSU - Corsair RM1000x

Case - CoolerMaster MasterCase Maker 5t

Okay, now to move on.  System is now three years of age and since there are no upgrades/updates to the BIOS or any of  the other system files I have been thinking about updating/upgrading my system.  Considering that I already have my gpu, keyboard, mouse, etc., I think to upgrade, etc., then all I need is a motherboard, cpu, and ram with leads me to the ultimate question.  AMD or Intel?

I use my machine daily for email, reading news, watching movies both online and offline, and I have only one game - World of Warcraft.

So, give me what you think would best work for me.

I mean, you may have built it 3 years ago, but the CPU is 6 years old, and the tech behind the CPU is probably closer to 8 or 9 years old.

What resolution do you play at?
Honestly either will probably work. It's not like WoW is a super demanding game.

This is about the only guy that does benchmarks for WoW.

WoW doesn't care about too many cores, so just consider the 8700k the same as 10600k, and 9900k the same as 10700k.

In short, generally speaking your overall performance average will be better with intel and with ryzen you might get slightly better fps minimums sometimes.

Contrary to what people commonly say, WoW does indeed require good hardware to run well.

Here's some videos of me playing recently with a 5ghz 8700k and a 5700xt at Mac settings 1440p and msaax8

Even with my hardware it dips sometimes. I just did a raid and with everything going nuts it can drop to 50s and 60s from being gpu limited and cpu limited.

Is been extra hot in my house because my ac is on the fritz so ignore the temps lol

Hi, for me you can't go wrong with an Intel i9 9900k at $350 and this one will last you several years and hold your build tight for any Futur upgrades.

Many thanks for your answer, I will mark that one down for sure.  Can you help me with a mobo?  I would prefer something Asus.

Good Luck and have a good weekend.  Avoid the California fires.

Have not setup a budget yet considering my wife is buying a car tomorrow so all my spending money is out the window for the next couple of months.  Hoping to get something going by the time XMas rolls around.  But I wrote down the I9-9900 and the ROG mobo so I will have that when the time comes.

i said it once, i will say it again, the Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600X or even the 3600XT, are amazing processors when it come to price to performance, and the 2080 ti should not have any problem scaling with the 3600 or either of its refreshes. Now for the motherboard, if you are on a budget and want an Asus MoBbo, then go for the Asus B450 Prime A is the name i think, and if Asus is not the only option, then go for the Asrock B450 Steel Legend.

This thread has been derailed. Watch that video I posted by the WoW benchmark guy. The results should be the same for any 9th and 10th gen chips of same core configuration.

That will give you some information.

i3-10100

Ryzen 3 3300x (that you can't really get)

If all you do is email and WoW, just get an i3 or Ryzen 3 with fast-ish RAM (no need for 4400mhz, 3200 is fine), and a solid GPU. It won't really run great on a "toaster" but today's i3 and Ryzen 3 are yesterday's i7's.

Zen 3 and maybe rocket lake should be out by then. You should reconsider your options closer to when you purchase.
