Where have you heard that? Why would someone not be happy about better performance, regardless of what cpu they have?

It was just something I heard randomly. And i'm guessing it was something about how the GPU ran with each CPU? Maybe they talked about more stuff with AMD processors? Honestly I don't know, the things I heard were at the ends of conversations.

Just a quick question about the upcoming GPUs. I've been hearing a lot about AMD CPU owners are super happy and Intel owners are not about the upcoming GPUs. Just memes or what?

It's probably people talking about PCIE 4.0, which the Nvidia 30-series videocards are using, AMD 3000-series CPU's have access to, but Intel current offerings do not have PCIE 4.0.

PCIE is backwards and forwards compatible, meaning newer cards, can run in older slots (and vice versa). There is currently no reason to assume the Nvidia videocard will run any slower on PCIE 3.0 (x16) connections, so I would consider any speculation on that part just that; speculation.

Or it's people meme'ing about this whole PCIE thing, probably.

Unless you're from the future, there is no information about the new Nvidia cards' performance with either Intel or AMD CPUs. But some people will say the randomest things sometimes.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

It remains to be seen if PCIe 4.0 matters for these new cards. To be fair they are massive dies with so many cuda cores. I'd wager the performance difference isn't huge, but again remains to be seen.

The burden of proof is on the people making the claim, which I haven't found any substantial evidence why it would matter this generation; but I remain indifferent and objective currently.

The last couple gens it wasn't an issue whether you were using PCIE 2.0 or 3.0, unless for specific purposes (which the people making the current claims don't mention), but I'll have to wait - like everyone else of course :P - to see if it actually matters in the reviews.

according to nvidia

PCIE GEN4
Q: Will customers find a performance degradation on PCIE 3.0?

System performance is impacted by many factors and the impact varies between applications. The impact is typically less than a few percent going from a x16 PCIE 4.0 to x16 PCIE 3.0. CPU selection often has a larger impact on performance. We look forward to new platforms that can fully take advantage of Gen4 capabilities for potential performance increases. Note also, all benchmarks and performance data on our website and presented by Jensen was from a PCIE 3.0 platform.

tl;dr faster gaming chip > pcie 4.0

though im interested to learn more about RTX io, as that might bring pcie 3.0 to the limit, on top of already required bandwidth.

Makes sense. Basically doesn't matter (though it is also in Nvidia's best interest to not make Intel angry).

well, yea

but intel should be angry at their incompetence now more than anything

still wondering why the 10th gen cpu didnt include pcie 4.0, new platform, good chance to include it.

or they wanna save it for 11th gen to add value to it? because otherwise it's just a 10th gen with slightly higher clocks -shrug-

Cool. My 1080 that I bought a month after it's launch is really really struggling right now, and I don't know why. Can't wait for the 3080's.

Are you getting low performance with your 1080? (compared to before). You can post about it in the Troubleshooting forum and we can take a look at it.

Some things I'd consider:

- Dust the card

- Reinstall the drivers. Install older drivers

- Check for high temperatures (card might need new thermal paste)

- Check for GPU clocks, see if it's downclocking

No I feel like this card has always under preformed from what people say I should be getting. Never understood it. Ran benchmarks and it always fell under other 1080's. And i've never had temp issues.

definitely doesnt sound normal, if it's severely underperforming compared to other similar setups

What kind of RAM do you have? How many sticks / what speed / CAS latency?

For sure, I just hate having to ask them to explain it more, or dumb it down for me. I do my best to google things but sometimes the explanations I find I don't understand so I come here.
