i have a decent laptop through my company a full specced out 5530 precision.. works perfectly..

however when turned off, even with the 15 seconds forced shut down, shutdown /r command, where it should fully shut off, it consumes full battery from when i go home till the next morning..

the laptop is not running, it is not hot..

however the battery seems to function 100% and says it is at 100% health, and if i fully charge it, it runs fine on battery for 5-7 hours.

had IT going through windows settings, an feel like i have been through all bios settings.. it makes the laptop not usable as a laptop

Probably vPro or some other remote management stuff causing the drain if you really are shutting down and not just putting it to sleep.

as said, i have tried nearly all the things i have access to.. so shurdown /r ... 15 sec power button hard shutdown...

had IT remove some of the direct elements in battery saving, to try and see if that solves the issue...

turned of ALL that has a wake function, usb charge and such in bios.. to ensure that nothing can draw, removed my Logitech unify and my sennheiser MB660 dongles.. still just sucks power.. fun actually i start i up it might say 50% battery in windows.. then "snap..." 2%... then die.. feels like it is tuning it self on..

faulty powerbutton? seems to work fine.

or some .. "turn on timer" but should that not be dead in a full hard off.

I mean it does sound like the battery is indeed broken.

However, did you try this?

Quote

Run command prompt as administrator.

Type in "powercfg.exe /h off" without the quotes and press enter.

Close command prompt.

Restart computer.

*Alternatively* you can try turning off

"fast startup".

Of course it's hard to say what "IT" have messed up, so a full reset may be necessary... still leaning on defective batttery, but it's impossible to say of course and also unusual as I suppose it's a new'ish device.

fast startup is turned off..

Cannot run these commands, because i do not have admin rights..

yeah, but should the battery not be fully dead then, can still charge it, and use it on pure battery for 8 hours..

IT wants me to buy a new pc, just to get on with it... but having a hard time just .. scrapping this one..

it is i7 8850 with 32gigs of ram P1000, 4k screen so it just seems like such a waste.

Tbh I had a similar issue with the charge / battery (it would fall to like 50% overnight even though the laptop was "turned off" ) and that command completely fixed it.

So you need a fresh install of windows, check and if issue still persists turn off hibernation with that command.  Or let IT do it but only if you can see what they're doing (as they apparently don't know what they're doing...)

Otherwise you're indeed screwed it looks like and need a new laptop, I'm afraid.
