Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death but I could not find any recent post about updating. However, I am on 8 and have it installed on my desktop and have zero issues what so ever. I even was able to get a key so I can install it at my job as IT. I love windows 8. All the hate is around the UI but that is not whats important it what they changed under the hood.

Back on topic, I have been thinking of upgrading to 8.1 but after reading all the negative comments and bashing throughout countless articles it has worried me. All of the sites were dated back to Nov around the release of 8.1 and I can not find many recent post. So I am hoping all the issues are (mostly) ironed out as of now.

Did anyone have major issues after updating??

Also I have multiple images from acronis so restoration will be solid but just a pain. And this is only about UPDATING not installing fresh or coming from another os. I just wanna know if you encountered any issues when running the update.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses!

8 and 8.1 are great, I would recommend going to 8 or 8.1. The only problem I had with 8.1 was blue screens constantly on my laptop, but not desktop.

This is the only thing I am worried about. I have all my drivers/bios up to date so I am hoping I will not have any issues like bsd :(

You probably wont have any issues, I narrowed my problem down to that my install is a little corrupted, ever since fresh install I haven't had a blue screen.

i had a problem in windows 8.1 that made my favourite game unplayable, it's not a demanding game (it's called osu!) because i got like 1.5k fps on this game every 2-3 seconds i was loosing like 750-800 frames which made it unplayable :(

good OS though, just needs support from program developers and some problems ironing out.

If you are on windows 8, I say go for it, however and this is in my opinion, if you are on 7 I wouldnt make the jump

Ill give it a shot then. Wish me luck

windows 8 support ends 2015 so you have to update to 8.1 if you want to use the OS.

I would of surely been upgraded by then. Just really wanted to know if most of the errors are ironed out when updating by now.

So I updated and everything went smooth. It was on my lunch break so I opened up a few games to see if they run and no error or driver issues. I think everything is good for the most part. However, in 8 my memory usage was was about ~950mb at idle (I keep my pc pretty clean) and now it is at about 1.5GB. Only services I can see that are higher are the scvhost. In 8 they all were 12mb and under and now a few are about 40-50mb. It might be just because it is still doing behind the scenes so I will let it settle in and check back in a few. Im glad I got no errors yet though.

Anyone get more ram usage after update?
