New AMD cards

Hey all,

 

I currently have a 5700xt but am so excited about the new amd cards. 

 

My current cpu is a 3700x and was wondering whether you guys reckon there will be a bottleneck with the new gpus. I read a post saying that there wouldn't even be a bottleneck with the new 30 series nvidia cards with the 3700x cpu but not sure how reliable that is.

 

Also, any estimation of the price of the new amd cards. I know they are probably going to release a few cards but any idea on how much the base card will be. I can currently still sell my 5700xt for around $600, but i know it will drop in price in the coming weeks.

 

And finally, if i was to sell my 5700xt now and wait 2 months for the new cards to come out, would my system be ok if i temporarily ran a old R9 390 in it. The pc that had the r9 390 had a few problems and i suspected it to be the 390 but never confirmed that it was. So, if i was to test the 390 now and it had problems would it potentially stuff up other parts in my system.

4K gaming is where there is the least CPU bottleneck since it is generally the GPU that is the limiting factor at high resolutions.

 

A CPU bottleneck tends to present itself at lower resolutions.

 

IE:

 

A 10900K+2080 TI @ 1080P performs much better than a 3600+2080 TI @ 1080P.

 

But a 10900K+2080TI @ 4K performs similarly to a 3600+2080 TI @ 4K.

It's unlikely to do any damage, and unless it is broken, it should work fine in your system for now.

 

If you really want to upgrade, then selling your current GPU now could be a good plan, but you might have difficulty finding a buyer since many people are anticipating the new launch.

depends on which gpu you get with the 3700x, from existing data, the 3700x is fine with the 2080 ti at 4k, <5% bottleneck at 1440p, that # will be higher with a faster gpu, big navi is rumored to be 20% faster than a 2080 ti.

I was going to say the same thing, because I just bought a RX 5700 XT last week and it was $410. Guess that fancy plastic colorful money the ozzies have doesn't go as far as good ol American greenbacks 

 

But seriously the 5700XT is a good card why not hang onto it for like a year or two and get some good use out of it then upgrade?

The new RDNA 2 that they are releasing with it seems pretty cool and speculated to be 50% better than the current RDNA, plus has its own form of ray-tracing. If I sold now at $600 aud, and bought one in 2 months time when I expect it to be $800 to $1000 I could have a brand new gpu with with the latest tech for $200, rather than sell in a few months time when the 5700xt will a lot cheaper.
