Which GPU is better

GeneralGusher

hey

I was going to buy a new GPU soon. Im upgrading from a gtx 1050 to either a gtx 1650 super, or a used gtx 1660 Super. I just saw the rx 580 card and it also is pretty good. Any one know which one I should get? and when I should get them?

In terms of performance: 1650 Super = RX 580 < 1660 Super.

The difference between the 1650 Super and RX 580 is more in its power use.

What you should get depends on the games and resolution you play at and the fps you expect.

When you can afford them? I mean, you could wait for Ampere, but I doubt we will see cards in the same price bracket as the mentioned videocards.

I'd wait till RTX 3000 and Big Navi. Not only because new GPUs, but the current ones will drop in price so a 2060 could be the same price as a 1660S for example

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1

As an owner of an RX 590 (which is basically a factory overclocked 580), I would say go with the 1650/1660. If you're going with a used 1660 super, then it's no contest. The 1660 super offers significantly better performance compared to the RX 580 or the RX 590. As far as the 1650 and 580 go, both perform very similarly. However, the 1650 super currently retails new for around $30 less than the RX 580, so it's a better deal price-wise (this wasn't the case when I built my PC).

In the end, it's entirely up to you, but that's what I would recommend.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

1660 super would be the best card of them if you odn't mind buying used but you strictly want a new one then go with 1650 super

Thanks guys! I was just wondering what the big difference is between them I will probably wait until the 3000 series cards come out and see if there is any price change :)

The 1660 Super is about 25% better than a 1650 Super/RX 580.

My RX 580 served me rather well at 1080p in the past, but I'm sure depending on the game, it can't reach 60fps anymore.

Not sure how much of a difference in performance the RX 590 makes, but I can still play pretty much any game at or exceeding my freesync cap of 75 fps. The only games where I don't get at least 75 fps are older games where it can't go over 60 fps anyway. I've been able to get over 100 fps in Apex Legends and Titanfall 2 on high/max settings though. I can even hit 75 fps in Forza Horizon 4 on max settings. As a GPU for my first ever gaming PC, it's served me quite well these first eight months.
