Earlier today, Broadcom announced the release of full documentation for the VideoCore IV graphics core, and a complete source release of the graphics stack under a 3-clause BSD license. The source release targets the BCM21553 cellphone chip, but it should be reasonably straightforward to port this to the BCM2835, allowing access to the graphics core without using the blob. As an incentive to do this work, we will pay a bounty of $10,000 to the first person to demonstrate to us satisfactorily that they can successfully run Quake III at a playable framerate on Raspberry Pi using these drivers. This competition is open worldwide, and you can find competition rules here which describe what you have to do, and how to enter.

2.5 years ago i bought a SGA S5830i that runs on this retarded soc from broadcom i used it for almost for 2 years and during the time i had this device there was no way to get any documentation about chipset itself or any complete source code was made available so someone could actually port CM7.2 and get hw acceleration until Biel started to work on it since last march or april, after seeing the progress , i thought it was going somewhere but some bugs/issues were unbearable (like any game that is 3D lags on this device , bluetooth never works between S5830i's that runs CM7.2...) anyways since then i got no good feelings about broadcom and their "perfect" support for developers. i wont suggest anyone to get a device with broadcom soc in it (ofc since then i got myself a i9300 and i9190

i just cant have good feelings about broadcom it took them 2+ YEARS to get this stage...
