High End Enthusiast Gaming/Trading Station + Audio

jUsTdOdGe

Budget (including currency): $5k+

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: MetaTrader 4, Gaming (1440p Ultrawide/4K 120hz)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

So I'm not new to building PCs (dropped a VooDoo 3 in my HP sometime in the 90s, first build was 2000 or maybe 2001) but I am a little to the extreme end of things so I wanted to see if I could get expert advice here.

This is my current placeholder build. I say placeholder because I am still contemplating a 3950x build with the X570 Aorus Xtreme motherboard with the same storage setup except PCIe 4 NVME drives. I will not be getting a 2080 Super, that's just a placeholder for the 3090 (or whatever it will be called).

I am undecided on a PSU due to the rumors surrounding Ampere - I'd like to get one that comes with the 12pin instead of using an adapter. Whatever I get, I'd like to get something as powerful and quiet as possible so I need recommendations here.

The concept behind this build is overkill with no compromises. I am aware that the motherboard and the memory in particular are overkill, but I don't want to make any compromises if there is any performance gain to be had. From what I could research you could still see FPS increases in memory up to around the 4000 mark. This puts me into my position of Intel vs AMD as I am aware that Intel is objectively better while gaming, but AMD has the edge with PCIe 4, and I have a hard time believing that won't be a factor sooner rather than later.

Right now I have an MSI Titan laptop from when I was traveling. I have a pair of AKG 712s connected to a Fulla 2 amp. I love the headphones and don't see a reason to upgrade them, however I am very open to an amp upgrade now that portability is no longer necessary. I will also need speakers (monitors?) as well as a subwoofer. Will I need a soundcard? I'm very, very uninformed in this area and may also crosspost to the audio forum if needed. I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile but I play games where location matters (Warzone, PUBG, other shooters) as well as general immersion (music, movies, etc). I really need help here.

Lastly is I have no creativity, and really need help making this build look nice. I'm torn between a Corsair 680x and a Lian Li O11D, in the near term future I'll be attempting a hard tubing build. Unfortunately I am not very good working with tools but I think I can make it happen. I'm open to ideas and suggestions here too.

tl;dr

Intel vs AMD with PCIe 4 as a consideration

No compromises with regards to diminishing returns

Trading (doesn't require much power) but really gaming and just because reasons

Audio concerns

Do you need a new system immediately?

From what I hear, Zen 3 (coming out by end of year) will give 10-20% IPC improvements, which would win the gaming crown.

It depends when I sell my laptop. Can't really go without a PC, but I'd like to sell my laptop and buy this. Couldn't I swap to Zen 3 on a X570 board? Because that is an option. I'd only be annoying about swapping motherboards.

So what is a placeholder setup, especially one that uses all wrong parts instead of the ones you're actually getting?

Do you want advice/suggestions on what you listed?

So you want to blow $5k, wait til the stuff you want comes out.  Place holder doesn't do anything to flesh out a build you'll actually get.

also, no point in spending so much on top of the line motherboards. those are only useful to extreme (LN2) overclockers.
