I would go with the 5700xt for more value.

Pure performance & value for money are - in this case - mutually exclusive parameters...

Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

I asked because "XFX Thicc III 5700XT" and "2070 Super FE" sounded oddly specific, as if they were the same or closely priced. I wouldn't want to make someone pay $300 extra for a 2070 Super because that's their local pricing - it's an important thing to know.

no the 2070 is 100$ more

If you're not streaming, don't need any of the RTX specific features, don't mind potentially having to tinker with the drivers and also don't want to wait for Ampere/RDNA2 GPUs (which are coming pretty soon btw), go for the 5700XT, though I wouldn't go for the model you mentioned. I'd get an MSI Gaming X, Powercolor Red Devil, Sapphire Nitro+, Sapphire Pulse or Powercolor Red Dragon instead.

now ignoring price which one is borderline faster

The 2070 Super is faster.

Fair point...
