Smaller formfactor ssd's/hdd's used in ultrabooks and such. Also it uses another interface/connector than regular sata.

Its just sata with a smaller connector.

Signaling is identical (u can use passive adapter for sata <-> msata)

It uses another connector is what i said. You can't connect an mSATA ssd to a normal Sata port.
