How much virtual memory should I set?

I am having problems with programs crashing because they say they've run out of memory. I was told to check how much virtual memory I have set to it and apparently at some point in time I went in and put a custom size. I have 16GB of 3200mhz and a 2070S thats 8GB. Should I just set it to automatically manage it or is there a specific initial and maximum size I should do?

 

Edit: Also my C drive is my 500GB boot ssd and the E is my 4TB hdd. Is the HDD supposed to have a page file size to? Cause mine doesn't

What are you using that uses more than 16GB ram? You should just swallow the cost and buy more RAM.

 

Using virtual memory is generally a really bad idea, it is much much slower than DRAM so whenever it is called the CPU has to wait for the very slow data to get there. Set it to System managed size.

It just playing games like Apex and PUBG. The actual ram usage never actually goes over ~70% .

You don't need virtual memory then, it seems like your RAM might be defective or you've overclocked it too aggressively. Or using some weird setting has made a limit to how much memory those games use.

Just because it is not being used doesn't mean you should turn it off. It exists specifically to offload not currently active tasks out of the ram so it can be used for the important active stuff. That is why setting it to auto is a good idea as it can self regulate the size then and be dynamic.

I was talking about setting custom amounts, letting Windows handling it is what I meant.

I set it to auto and I also did a windows memory test (came up with nothing). But it seems like the auto was the right thing to do, because I just got through my first apex match without it crashing.
