MKV HD Video Playback Issues

Hi guys, I'm at my wits end...  If anyone has any advise I would gladly appreciate it.

 

Last Christmas I upgraded my rig 

• AMD - Ryzen 7 3800X 
• CORSAIR - Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB
• ASUS - TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)
• Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 1TB
• Windows 10 Pro

 

I used my existing graphics card

• NVIDIA - GeForce GTX 970 4GB

and my trusty but aged

• LIAN LI PC-P80 Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case

 

I have the computer connected to a

• Denon AVR that outputs to my 
• Sony - 65" Class X900F Series LED 4K UHD Smart Android TV

Everything installed without a hitch, I'm outputting 4K to the TV.  I have a program called MyMovies which is a digital movie collection management program that uses Windows Media Center as its front end.  Being that Windows Media Center is no longer supported in Windows 10 I went to the community and was able to get it installed and working.  I have a bunch of Blu-ray movies ripped into MKV format using DVDfab.  I leave in the HD surround formats like DTS-MA and Dolby Atmos and shrink down the video.  MyMovies software lets me network across all my PCs at home and watch the movies.  All my client PCs play the MKV files just fine on lesser hardware but when I play them on my new rig the video will just freeze with audio still playing using Windows Media Player, also tried VLC with the same result.

 

I updated Windows, drivers for Motherboard and graphics.  I'm using Shark Codecs to get MKV files to play. 

BIOS are updated as well, using memory profile and ASUS recommended settings.

Tried lowering resolution to 1080P

Tried Nvidia control panel settings

Tried disabling full screen optimizations for Windows Media Center once I moved it to program files

CPU temps hover 50-62 degrees using stock wraith cooler

Tried disabling HD audio and still freezes and random time for all my MKV videos.  DVDs ripped in Video TS folders work just fine.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Hulu all work and stream without a hiccup.  

I was thinking maybe I need more CPU cooling, or a new graphics card???  

I haven't been able to crack this nut, if anyone can provide any help it would be greatly appreciated.

First step in troubleshooting is to reduce your variables.

 

Uninstall shark codecs completely. Use a modern supported video player. Play a local file, not over the network. And check your temps with hwinfo if you think they might be at fault.

Your issue is with your software. I have a laptop that is less powerful than my phone and it plays high bitrate MKVs just fine. I have never heard of any of the software you listed before, plus I honestly wouldnt use anything that relied on software that old.

I don't know what this is, but it must be archaic if it uses Windows Media Player. Have you looked at Kodi?

Yeah, I'm gonna pile on here. If you're just messing around trying to get stuff work for that sweet 'how does this kludge even work?' endorphin hit, we could be digging in, but daily driving this rig? Not a great idea. Kodi, Emby, or Plex are all modern, currently supported solutions to this problem. Or just toss everything in a network folder/nas and use VLC or MPC-HC.
