A Solid CPU for to build a Custom loop around

Most of the games I play are more CPU dependent. and I am already planning on getting a 2080ti or if the new AMD or Nvidia GPU drop and they preform to there price point I may get one of them. but for now I planning on a used/open box founders edition for water cooling. My main focus for this post is CPU I would like to keep under $600 but also dont want a budget CPU. I see the Ryzen's have more cores but there clock speeds are lower then intel but I have never overclocked a Ryzen CPU so I am not sure if the head rooms there to take like a ryzen 9 3900x to say 5GhZ. or if I should go with a 10900K instead.

For games only, a 10900K or a 10600K make the most sense on the Intel side. 3700X on the AMD side.

 

If you have other more highly threaded workloads you can consider the 3900X or 3950X.

Might want to go with a 10900k if your strictly gaming, it will cost a hell of a lot more for the cpu and motherboard but it will be better for games.

A 10600k doesn’t makes sense, lower single thread speed than a 3600, less cache, and you have to pay for a z490 board. Only reason it would make sense to go tenth gen is for the i9

An OCed 10600K gets damn near the best FPS available today. Basically it crushes the 3600...

If you are going with next gen amd or nvidia gpu, then just go with next gen AMD cpu too, it should be a beast in gaming. R7 4800X should be a good match to your specifications.

 

On AMD, atleast on 3000 series, unless you are a really really good overclocker (per CCX overclocking etc), basically there is no overclocking.

You just remove the EDC, TDC and PPT limits, and let the CPU do it's thing. It will automatically run at the fastest clock possible, and use the optimal voltage while doing it. On a custom loop it will run faster than on an AIO etc.

 

On Intel, you overclock like normally. 

 

If you need to buy a cpu right this instant, then Intel 10th gen I7 will be damn impressive in games.

Im not going to spend the money to custom water cool an i5 also after going with the 5820K last go around I rather shoot for excess over value. If I was on a lower budget or didnt have plans to hard line the system then I would gladly look at the i5  then go buy a 3700X

I would get something that you don't have to swap out too often. I've seen some people's custom loops and it looks like a bitch and a half to work with.

 

UNLESS

 

.....that's what you like doing. Then get the worst CPU you can get, to force you to upgrade sooner, to get to update your custom loop sooner.

10900K it is, then. Delivers the highest FPS vs any other CPU.

 

Or wait until next gen Ryzen launches to see if AMD takes the gaming crown.

I dont base my decisions on future possible CPUs or GPU thats why I really didnt go into my the GPU that I am planning to use. Also I plan on buying this before October. Also I rather have the i9 over the i7 for the faster boost clock and more cores. I plan on keeping this system for at least 5 years

I have a custom hard loop system now and I can confirm it is a pain in the ass to upgrade anything
