Selecting a UPS

re4nightwing

Hi,

I have a full tower using 500W PSU and a Asus VZ249H 24" monitor.

Currently, I'm using a Prolink PRO701SFC UPS.(650VA)

Can this ups make any harm to the parts?(I'm asking this because my monitor recently broke and only used for about 6 months.)

Do you guys think this PSU is enough or should I get a 1200VA one.

Any thoughts on this matter will be greatly appreciated...

Your current unit is Simulated Sinewave. It's a nice middle of the road feature for a UPS. You should be fine with what you have if you can save your stuff quickly and shutdown.

To answer your question as to if your UPS could harm your other hardware. It's not impossible but it's not likely either. I wouldn't worry about it.

If it was not powerful enough it would just shut down with an overload error.

Is it possible to give a overload error under stress like gaming or rendering? If it is possible can you suggest a software to stress test my whole setup.

Had no problem with APC. Would always stick with them even though they aren't the cheapest by a long shot.

A 650VA UPS will give you 4-6 minutes of runtime at 300W draw on fully charged batteries.  (Assuming healthy batteries.)

Grab a Kill-A-Watt and see what your actual draw is, and base it on that.
