Laptop for Computer Science Student

Hello Friends,

So I'm starting my computer science bachelor in September and I have to get a new laptop.

I am not gonna play games on the laptop, i own a Desktop already. So the laptop will be used exclusively for University.

I really want a 2 in 1 laptop if possible, tho I'm open for other suggestions.

I'm currently looking at these two laptops:

Yoga C940-14IIL (14", UHD, Intel Core i7-1065G7, 16GB, 1000GB, SSD)

HP Envy x360 – 15-ed0902nz (15.60", UHD, Intel Core i7-1065G7, 16GB, 512GB, SSD)

I could also get a microsoft surface book 3, altought price inst a problem its +500 bucks at least and I don't see how it would perform better than the other two.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Dilgi

Why not get the amd envy x360? You get can get an 8core at that price with better battery life and just better performance overall.

For comp sci...... MacBook. Windows has come a long way with the linux subsystem, but it’s really hard to beat a Mac seeing as it’s literally Unix.

IMO, I would give Apple a serious consideration here. The specs will not match that of a windows machine, but the ease of use and integration with software dev work is huge. Plus, any serious compile jobs you may have you can always remote into your desktop or likely a university server VM to do heavy lifting.

A MacBook Pro, without a doubt. A Mac is the only computer can can triple boot all 3 OSes (macOS, Windows, and Linux). This means that a Mac can do everything from iOS App development to server deployment.

If price isn't an issue, a full spec Thinkpad X1 Yoga should be the best choice for you. Business laptops are almost always going to be better than consumer laptops.

That is nice and all, but not worth having a laptop with a soldered SSD. If either the motherboard or the SSD fails so does the other. Either way, any data you have in the SSD is as good as gone.
