Looking for very specific case...

why an sfx psu with a matx board? sounds extremely niche; if you've already got a sfx psu then with the current market you would be able to sell it and get a higher wattage atx sized one for the same price

It's a unicorn, unfortunately, since most cases that support mATX motherboards, need a bracket for SFX PSUs. The A500 doesn't help either but that's not the most limiting factor, it's the SFX without a bracket that makes finding a case like that impossible without it being a custom-order.

as for a matx case thatll fit that ridiculously tall a500, the phanteks evolv matx has cooler clearance over 190mm. has great cable management and that sorta thing, only downside is that the airflow through the front plate is relatively low but you can A) take off the decorative plate or B) mod it or buy a modded plate

I have A BUNCH of Corsair SF450 and SF600 that can't be sold as new.

I also already have the motherboard and it happens to be mATX.

I was hoping that by the case using an SFX PSU, it could be just a little shorter (in height), though I know the A500 means it needs to be fairly wide as well.

Like a cube.  :D

Ok.  Let's say I forego the SFX PSU.

What's the smallest microATX case.  Keep in mind that I already have the board and the CPU cooler.

My drives are M.2, so I don't need a bunch of drive bays.

Fractal Design Meshify C Mini is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head that's smallish and can fit an A500.

Looking at PCPP and Thermaltake's website for clearance, the Thermaltake Core V21 might be able to fit it all too, but I can't verify whether it does or not.

Nah.. That case is crap.

Dammit... It's like picking a case these days is so much harder than 10 years ago.. but not much has changed with the components!!

Yeah.  The Core V21 might be the most versatile one still out there.  Reminiscent of the old X-Qpack or Corsair Air 240.

Oh well.. might have to go that route.

Nope.  On second thought.. definitely not.  That thing has WAY too much wasted space on the top half.

Can that half shroud be removed from the PSU area?

As for the v21  I'm not sure.

But the meshify c mini's shroud can be removed afaik.

Edit. Just doubled checked and no you can't on the meshify c without some modding. Doesn't officially support it sadly.

Yeah.  I was asking about the Meshify shroud removal.  😞

I mean if you're into modding you can.

Though it doesn't out of the box.

I could always do something crazy and do the Enthoo Mini XL DS and put an ITX board up top to run as a file server for the house.  :D

Though if you don't use dual PSUs in that case, there's a lot of wasted space.  :D

I don't mind a large build.  I have room.  I just want to use the parts I have and not have a build with a bunch of wasted space.

Ah.. screw it.  I'll just get the Meshify.

Yeah the A500 cooler hurts your selection drastically. But you have it, so we cant fault you for wanting to use it.

The Meshify Mini C PSU shroud is rivited on, so it can be drilled out and removed, but not replaced in a typical fashion with clips or screws.

Playing devils advocate, assuming you did say "Fuck it, i'll use a different cooler" For a shorter air cooler (<155mm) you could get into the Silverstone PS15 with an ATX PSU at 25L in volume. For an AIO and an SFF PSU, you could go down to a Sliger Cerberus which is only 19L, almost half of the Meshify Mini C (though it's expensive at $245, and I'm not sure how slow or fast it ships being a premium case brand)

I had to laugh that half of Corsair's cases can't use a Corsair air cooler.  LOLOL!

Yeah... I already have the cooler.  And I'm on my 1 millionth AIO install and I'm getting a little bored with it.  Wanted to try something different.

Would love to find out if my PSU fans would work on the A500.  :D Bound to be an improvement.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just an FYI... I ended up with the Meshify Mini.  Glad I did.  I'm happy with it.  Still using the SF600, but with all the extra space, I actually feel like the PSU runs much cooler (it's under the shroud, fan up, mounted to an offset adapter bracket).

I will say the case doesn't like bigger cards.  I have an ROG RX5600 XT and had to remove the grommet to get the card all of the way into the PCIe slot!!  I still don't think the latch on the slot is engaged, but it's working and not moving, so I think I'm good.  :D
