Is 50 °C normal for an 3950x??

Go to solution Solved by Bombastinator,

Strikes me as a possibly high depending on how this 85c° is reached. I just ran into an instance where people were claiming load temp limits based on situations where the cpu was not stressed over 20%.   85c is below the 95c threshold for ryzen2, so as long as it actually never gets hotter than that it’s probably fine as was said, but if that number was not reached stressing the cpu if the cpu ever actually is stressed numbers could go a lot higher than 85c.  If that is done a lot a problem could arise.

Hey,

is it normal to have around 50 °C idle with a 3950x? I'm cooling it with an Corsair 150i
It doesn't really get over 85 °C. Just to be sure that I'm not killing my CPU.

idle temps do not matter. only load temps do. since your load temps are fine your cpu is fine too.

Idle on my 3900X is around 45c dependant on ambient so I would say yes that’s fine. Like SavageNeo said, it’s your load temps that matter and they are fine.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

load temps of 85°C under synthetic load in R20 looped for about 10 minutes.

The idle temps just striked me as high.

Thanks for the quick teck tips :P
