Help with choosing cpu

Uses : browsing Internet, Facebook, Zoom, watching movies (Netflix), watching animes (CrunchyRoll), play games at 1080p.

Games : smite, fortnight, pubg, overwatch, Dota 2, rocket league, league of legends, Battlefield V, GTA V, Command and conquer remastered, halo remastered master collection, left for dead 1,2,3,4, resident evil 2 remastered, resident evil collection,some Chinese/Korean mmorpg games. 

 

Setting : 1080p (v high - high) 100-120hrtz 1msec 27 inch curved

He bought a gigabyte RTX 2060 Super 8gb

Can't decide between intel & AMD. 

*I prefer AMD cheaper.

$450 for the CPU or for all the other components? 

A 3600 will be plenty, but a 3300X would also likely be enough, if maybe a little tight in BF5 at least.

Yup, $450 is for the cpu. We put the money aside for it.

3600 and get a better GPU. $450 for the CPU in a gaming build with a 2060 Super doesn't make sense.

It'd certainly be better, if you can't wait for Ampere/RDNA2.

That's up to him I told him but he says he don't use amd gpus. Too many driver problems he says.

Well Ampere GPUs will likely be releasing before RDNA2.

I wouldn't even consider a locked Intel chip in all honesty.

The 10400 is able to beat a 3600 in quite many games when paired with fast RAM, Intel shot themselves in the foot by locking it on the non-Z boards...  @TofuHaroto

And the 10600k can beat it in games even more if you overclock it.

Also the 3600 is still unlocked. Still wouldn't recommend it in all honesty.

True but the stock cooler will not be sufficient for OCing adding more cost to the AMD solution, tough it can be argued if buying it later as a upgrade it may not be a bad idea. Still 10400 isn't out of options when paired with ASUS or ASRock board having the APE & BFR features, the only issue I see here is that the single core is stuck at an abysmal 4.3GHz and APE/BFR will only cause all core turbo to be more aggressive so the base clock at 2.9GHz will more rapidly jump to all-core to 4GHz. Good for more Cinebench R20 or heavy workloads but gaming maybe not... (maybe in the future?)
