Hello, I'm posting to see if anyone can help/advise me on how to fix my internet problems.

Me and my partner are living in an annex about 75 meters away from the house. The connection at the house is absolutely perfect, no lag spikes, packet loss and produces great speedtest numbers. A few months ago we had a 75 meter CAT6 ethernet cable installed from the house to the annex, it is plugged into a booster box that is plugged into the mains electricity, that links to another booster box connected to our router (in the house). For the first month in the annex we were getting good internet, good numbers ect, I was experiencing packet loss but that was only when my partner watched netflix or streamed something at the same time I was playing video games.

It started to really decline in performance whilst my partner was working from home, she was dropping out of important work calls, experience extreme lag spikes and really struggling with the connection (via wired and wireless). Recently it has been so bad we've been having to hotspot internet from our mobiles just to be able to make simple calls, send emails or stream on the tv.

I am really stuck and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of what tech I would need to create a sustainable/consistent internet connection or provide me any kind of solution to fix this.

One thing I will point out is that the CAT6 cable isn't buried, it's fixed with clips and running across the top of our fence panels that line the garden. Could it be that the current heat wave is messing with the connection? As the description of the cable does say it's meant to be buried. But I didn't think that would make too much difference.

Thank you,
Jordan

I haven't tried plugging the CAT6 directly into my pc, I will try that now. But this is a very crude Network map the I have just drawn up.

Are you talking power line adapters or WiFi extenders for booster 1 and 2?

Thats not a WiFi booster. Thats a power line adapter with a WiFi extender built in. Between the first and second adapters its using your homes Electrical wiring to connect to each other. The issue is, electrical wiring was not made to carry data. These adapters generally dont hit their rated speeds. Generally when powerline adapters performance is linked to:

A) Distance between adapters (As in the physical run of the electrical wiring.

B) Is it on the same circuit vs on separate circuits. If the signal has to pass a circuit breaker it will cause some interference.

C) Depending on where you are in the world your electrical panel might contain multiple power phases. Here in the US you generally have two 120v lines coming in to the panel. Half the breakers are served by each phase. If you have to cross a phase you will defiantly get interference.

D) Do you have any high draw appliances on the circuit(s) in question? Because those can cause interference.

On a side note. The Ethernet ports on the adapters are only 100 Mbps. Which means you could only do a max of 100 Mbps. The 500 Mbps refers to the speed between adapters. Also the WiFi include on this is only good for 300 Mbps, but its doubtful you will get anywhere close to that.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I don't know why people keep buying power line adapters when there are tons of videos on YouTube showing how unreliable they are. Convenience doesn't guarantee quality when it comes to I.T devices.
