Steelseries Arctis Pro vs Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Headphones - Closed Back

Hi, I have an Arctis 5 from 2016, and I really like it, but since it's starting to die soon, I want to replace them.
I want to spend around 150-200 bucks for a gaming headset, and I found the Steelseries Arctis pro which has amazing sound (told by the reviewers). However I'm liking the idea of buying a headphone with a microphone separately.
I did some research, and I found out that the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x's sound should be my taste (it has a bit of a V shape, and I like the bass and a bit more treble aswell). I would buy a 30 usd michrophone, that I can attach to it.


My question is, will I get a much superior sound quality with a proper (150USD M50x) headphones over the Arctis pro (without gamedac 200USD)?
I usually use my headphones for:
gaming;
chating with friends (discord) (the 30usd mic would be better then the included one for the Arctis Pro, I'm sure);
music (pop, dubstep etc);
a lot of videos (movies, youtube).
For gaming, I usually play FPS and openworld adventure games, but I'm not a serious esport player, so I don't mind if the M50X's has a bit worse directional audio to locate the enemies.

 

So in short, will I get much better sound quality with the M50X's over the Arctis Pro's? Is it worth the extra hustle?

He's the one with the audio hookup.

I would generally never get gaming headphones because you are paying for flashiness and a microphone attached. Also I wouldn't say the M50x are bass heavy. At least for me they are just sharp highs which I am not a fan of.

Avoid the M50X.

I would try to get something like the AKG K361 or K371.

Either will be more pleasant in terms of treble, less muddy and prone to the sound falling apart, and less uncomfortable for longer terms sessions than the M50X. And you still get your bass.

 

Also, just be aware that everything sounds amazing to tech reviewers for the most part, lol. So opinions on sound should be taken with a grain of salt.

Heck, opinions from anyone who is not you should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah I like bass, okay not so much as in the SONY extra bass line-up but I like it.
I read a bit of harsness in the treble with the M50X's but I generally like treble and I always can tune down it a bit with an EQ. 
So you are saying that there's a big difference between them despite the M50X's are cheaper?

What's your opinion, what price category is the headphone equivalent to the Arctis Pro's in terms of sound quality?

I'm not into gaming headsets, so I haven't heard the Arctis Pro, but am familiar with how they are tuned based on measurements and anecdotal reviews.

As for the M50X, you should never look to EQ headphones into your desired sound signature when other options exist. The M50X are way too expensive for what they sound like.

the arctis pro doesn't sound too bad for gaming and is one fo rthe better wireless headsets out there. for gaming it sounds pretty good and I can definitely track people adequately by sound. you can definitely get better sounding wired headphones for $150 than the arctis pro for gaming but the m50x is nowhere near it. flat out too narrow sounding (though by design) for gaming. and as den=fi says too expensive for how they sound. 

at $150 to $200 you have options though if you like open back headphones you get many decent options and due to being open wide genereally better for gaming overall than the arctis pro. you do have some decent closedd backs like the dt 770 250 ohm but that needs a bit of power to drive . if you like bass but not to the level the sony stuff is the akg k371 is a good choice as it has some pretty punchy sub bass just doesnt perform the best for gaming. but definitely better thna the m50x. again If you have the proper environment open backs are a better way to go for gaming and music as well given your tastes align

If you want to look into the DT 770's, the DT 770 pro 80ohm are less hard to drive. They also got good bass and the treble is not that sharp. For some it will be tho. Just EQ if you think it is too sharp. The DT 770's probably got the best quality in bass out of any headphone in that price range imo.

EDIT: The M50X's are pretty narrow in the soundstage. The DT 770's have a really good soundstage for being closed back. You want a good open and wide soundstage for gaming and to feel like you are there in open world adventure games.

Yeah ok. The thing is with the 32ohm is that they are not velour. Meaning it will keep in more bass and will have less soundstage. Anyways. You can always buy new pads for the 32ohm version.

Arctis pro aren't that bad. But they do focus on the gamer side of the market with a mic and that lowers the sound quality a bit. Imo. The m50x are good. I always praise Beyerdynamics's cans because they are durable and light and the audio quality is great. All parts are easily replaceable aswell.

Forgot to mention. The m50x has got 3 cables. 1 short, 1 longer and one coiled. The DT 770 cable is not removable but you can repair it if you need to.

I always praise Beyerdynamics's cans because they are durable and light and the audio quality is great. All parts are easily replaceable aswell.

Durability is another important topic, because I rather spend 100USD more, to have 2-3yers of extra lifetime.

Yeah. The DT 770's are more durable than the m50x I would say. You will understand what I mean when you look at the DT 770's. If you need a new headband/earpads just buy some and pop it on. I never said they weren't durable.

I searched some DAC/AMP-s but I didn't find a good one that fits my needs. If I can find a good DAC+AMP combo for cheap, and I could use with my phone (and also with my PC) that would be great (USB-C, not apple lightning). Could you recommend one? I don't need super powerful one, I'm not going to have high-end headphones.

if you are going the dt 770 250 ohm I would at least go with a ifi hip dac. otherwise go with something easier to drive like an akg headphone. or a mh751/takstar pro 82

I wouldn't go for the 250Ohm ones, max the 80Ohm ones.

Get the 80ohms with the hip dac.

while not my favorite model the fiio q1 mk2 or the fiio btr5 ,btr3k or shanling up3 should work fine for portable solutions.

Aren't there any much cheaper? Or a DAC+AMP that costs like 50USD ain't better than my phone's or PC's?
