I am not one to post in forums, but I had to create this account because, at this point, I am just desperate for a solution.

For whatever reason, whenever I connect a headset with a mic into my computer, the mic picks up the whole computer's audio (music, game, voice-chat, whatever...).

The main headset I am using is the Steelseries Arctis 3, so this is not a matter of a cheap headphone, plus it seems to be happening with any headset I plug in.

It is not a matter of audio leaking through from the earpiece to the mic, as the audio is being recorded even while the mic is switched off.

I have tried going to the mic setting and disabling the "listen to this device" option. Was disabled from the start.. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio devices, drivers, etc. Nada. Also went to the Realtek Audio Console and disbled the "link the connectors [...]" option.

I realized this was a problem when, after plugging the headset in to the front panel, the "echo" was stupidly high. After switching to the back panel, the issue has improved but it is still super annoying (granted, not for me, but for everyone I am on Discord with.)

Make sure Stereo Mix is disabled.

Windows options -> System -> Sound -> Scroll to Related Settings -> Sound Control Panel -> Recording and make sure you don't have Stereo Mix enabled. If it is enabled right click on it and select disable.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
