300w PSU for Core2Duo and 6970

I am trying to frankenstein together some old parts- and wanted to see if an old Dell Inspiron 530 would work as a folding/mining rig with my HD 6970. I have ordered SATA to PCIE power adapters- so I wanna see if I should cancel them.

According to the eXtreme Power supply calculator I'll need a min of 341w, but what do you guys think? I think it might be ok, in light of TTL's recent video. Oh and there will be one HDD, no DVD or any other extras.The GPU won't even be used for screen viewing- I'll RDP in. Thanks

No way. HD6970 is hungry. So are core duos. And your psu won't be 300w platinum so no way man. Even if you manage to run it, it will die fast on 90% load all the time.

Nope, I had a 6970 and that card is really power hungry. I would spare 250W just for it. You will need at least a 450W PSU as minimum, maybe even a 500W one.

Yeah, if it's not constantly idling, you should get 400W for this CPU+GPU combo. Unless your product is s a really high-end PSU that can manage more than one it's rated for.
