Best material is anything solid that you like the look of and you don't really need a tutorial, just make it the right size for your case. Any tutorial would basically just be a drawn out way to say "measure it, then bend it, then attach it".

I’ve seen people mostly use acrylic. Is there any specific reason why or is it just bc it looks good?

Just looks. A shroud made of acrylic has the exact same airflow properties as a shroud made of cardboard.

Acrylic would be best for it as it's easy to work with and customize, places like Coldzero specialize in this kind of stuff.
