Do i wait for the price on oled tvs to drop or do i buy a lcd tv now?

Probably the lowest in the near future will be from Vizio's OLED TVs which are supposedly going to start @ $1300 for a 55" model. That is the lowest base price of any OLED TV coming to market, and it may go lower for Black Friday sales and such.

 

I would be shocked, though, if we see OLED TVs under $1000 in the next couple of years. The tech just isn't mass market yet, so the cost of production is still fairly high.

 

At the price you're looking at, though, OLED is way out of your friend's price range, and I don't expect it to drop to that point anytime soon... if ever.

so in the last TechLinked james said the price of oled might drop in the "near future". 
now a friend of mine wants a new tv for his playstation and stuff. so i told him to buy a 4k one so he is prepared for the ps5. 
I recommended the LG55UM7050PLC, because i remembered it to be the best under 400€ tv  while back.
but now i am not sure if its better to maybe wait a few months save a bit more money and then buy a oled?

There is always "something about to come out", get the best thing that is within your budget right now. You might want the PS5 to come out first before buying stuff for it though

I highly doubt OLED TVs will be in the $400-$600 range in a years time. Maybe in 3-4 more years. When they first came to market 80" OLEDs were around $16,000-$14,000 but now they are closer to $5000. I believe that was 3-4 years ago. Personally I think OLED TVs look phenomenal and there are a lot of shitty TVs on the market with the specs you might want but it won't look good at all. I still have my plasma TV from like 2006 and it looks better than a lot of lower end TVs today. It was also like $2800 though in 2006 money.

thanks, and well you can use the 4k etc just for watching netflix movies in 4k until the ps5 is there. and besides the tv atm is just shit. so its an upgrade anyways. 

but everyone so far says buy it so i guess thats what i tell my friend as well. 
you think the LG55UM7050PLC is still a good option for a under 400 tv?

Think about it, OLED destroys LCD in every aspect that matters. the moment they start selling OLEDs at 400 euro thats the end of LCD, and LCD is a massive cash cow they have been milking for years.

Probably the lowest in the near future will be from Vizio's OLED TVs which are supposedly going to start @ $1300 for a 55" model. That is the lowest base price of any OLED TV coming to market, and it may go lower for Black Friday sales and such.

 

I would be shocked, though, if we see OLED TVs under $1000 in the next couple of years. The tech just isn't mass market yet, so the cost of production is still fairly high.

 

At the price you're looking at, though, OLED is way out of your friend's price range, and I don't expect it to drop to that point anytime soon... if ever.
