Need help with connecting my friend to my minecraft server

Hey i really dont know in what category to put this but.

i made a minecraft server for me and my bf and i can connect but he cant when i give him the IP he cant find the server can anyone help me please.

i gave him my Ipv4 and it didnt work and i tried changing it in the server setting to the ipv4 but still didnt work.

im using minecraft java server that is in their website

Where are you getting your IP from?  If you're getting it from your network card, that's an internal IP.

i typed on google whats my ipv4 i dont have a network card normal motherboard connection

You probably need to port forward some ports on your router settings.  I've never played Minecraft so I wouldn't know what ports they use.

i hope im not showing something that can get me hacked. but i really dont understand how this works or where to start
