I'm looking at two monitors and one has speakers and only HDMI, or should i get the one DisplayPort.

The price and other specs are the same though

Which monitor models are you talking about?

For example if you want to do 4K or 144 Hz (or both) then the version of HDMI or DP will matter, because it will limit the maximum resolution/refresh rate. Otherwise both are fine, assuming your GPU supports both ports (most likely).

hmm... assuming all things are equal as you said (which they probably arent)

depends which connector you prefer then, both should work without issue

assuming you have the port to plug them in

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

if HDMI is the only port on there, it should be able to push the signal thru HDMI

vice versa with DP

just make sure your GPU actually supports 1080p 144hz on HDMI/DP though

Which monitors? It helps if we can look up the specs, e.g. is it HDMI 1.4 or 2.0, and what GPU do you have (which version of HDMI/DP does it support).

E.g. your GPU might not be able to do 144 Hz over HDMI but it might over DP, depending on the version of connectors it has.

From what I can see, the card has HDMI 1.4a and DP 1.2. You still didn't tell which monitors you're interested in though.

1920x1080 @ 144 Hz requires a bandwidth of 8 Gbps. HDMI 1.4a has 8.16 Gbps and DP 1.2 has 17.28 Gbps, so both are enough. So the only question would be whether the monitor(s) also support those versions. E.g. some older monitors can only do 144 Hz over Dual-Link DVI and not on their HDMI port.

Also, one had DP + 2x HDMI vs HDMI + VGA

Generally, I would recommend a DP over HDMI because of 1 thing, DP supports higher resolution (according to displayport.org, DP 1.2 can support up to 4K UHD 60Hz) and better colour output. Of course, newer revision of HDMI has remedied their shortcoming.

Anyway, the one major advantages of DP over HDMI is the ability to daisy-chaining multiple display (provided if the system support MST (Multi-Stream Transport). DP 1.3 and 1.4 should have this feature. DP 1.2 may or may not have this feature.). You can read a somewhat out-dated article here:

Hope that helps.
