Help needed: how to enable Crossfire?

FInally after it arrived for a few days, I get to install a second reference RX 480 on my dual Xeon box. I have rearranged the cards so that both RX 480's are connected to the PCIe lanes of the same CPU, and both are operating in 16x mode. Now even after that the Adrenalin software package still does not show the options for Crossfire. How to solve that?

Is the motherboard listed as crossfire compatible? Which one is it?

It is Asus Z9PE-D16, which is listed by Asus as Crossfire compatible.

Are you certain? I can't find any mention of Crossfire in either their specs or manual for that board.

 

Google isn't conclusive, but based on some stuff I found: Install both GPUs, uninstall drivers (DDU), then install the latest drivers while both GPUs are in the system.

It was mentioned on the lower tier motherboard Z9PE-D16C/2L as supported, and my exact Z9PE-D16 board is using BIOS from my old dead Z9PE-D16C/2L.
