I have an hp omen obelisk 8700 does anyone have any recommendations for a new m.2 ssd preferably 1tb 

AND I don't know much about m.2's and I need some help finding one

Do have know if it supports NVMe or only sata?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

2 kinds of m.2 b&m key and m key.  Assuming your mobo has m key m.2 you should use that instead of b key.  B key is just sata6.  As I am given to understand it you can’t get any use out of pcie4 and even the cheapest pcie3 nvme drives are faster than is useful for gaming so the rule there is the cheapest one you can get will be faster than you know what to do with but not noticeably faster than a sata6 ssd. 1tb drives have to have cache so that bit doesn’t matter. Buy m key nvme and the cheapest one you can find if it’s for gaming.  If it’s for video editing or something else where there are very large file transfers going on that may change.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
