Hey!

I've looking for memory for my PC, I need 128GB RAM, (don't bash straight away because I bought intel x299 platform a year and half ago, at the time no other offered quad channel up to 128GB and 10GbE ports)

I was looking at Asus vendor list, there are many on the list, but I see only very few of up to 8 DIMM support. Is it a list to follow religiously or can I use the ones approved for 2 slots in the 8 slots?

I can get 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair 2666 LPX for half the price of Crucial 16GB that is approved for 8 DIMM slot. Having 7 computers to feed RAM it becomes a big difference.

Anyone had experience ignoring vendor list recommendations? Is it that the one on the list are the ones they tested not meaning others wont work?

If the kit's not on the QVL list, at worst the XMP profile just won't work properly at all so it'll require some manual tinkering.

Don't worry about QVL lists. As they're technically wrong since they can't test every single module. It should work just fine for the most part.
