I am going to buy this laptop now since walmart screwed up my order.

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NX.MDLAA.004

(On a diff site ofcourse for cheaper :D)

I want to use this ssd:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227961

I've bought that OCZ SSD and use it on my main computer. Been using that for almost a year, the 60gb is really all I need. (Going to buy another 1 for this laptop) Question is, will it fit in that laptop?

It's a 2,5 inch drive so it will fit, you might need a different SATA cable for it though. Why are you going to buy a 60 gigabyte SSD? That's going to fill up from the OS already.

Well, I plan on installing windows 7 on it.  I've got a pro 64 bit from college, so meh.  I can find that SATA cable off newegg right?

Sorry, I sound like such a dumb nut, but which sata cable might I need?  I'm new to this laptop stuff, apologizes in advance.

That's an ancient SSD: Don't buy it!

60GB Sata II ??? Isn't worth any money. Get a nice 840 Evo or one of the cheap Kingston SSDs that are on sale like every 2 weeks and you'll be way better off.

Replacing the standard hard drive with the SSD should work.

As for Sata cables laptops don't use cables to connect to the drive so don't worry, all you need is the SSD and a screwdriver.

I'm not sure which SATA cable it will be but I'd guess that it is a mSATA in the laptop. Then you had to buy a mSATA to SATA cable or a mSATA SSD. I might be wrong but you could check it from the laptop before getting the SSD or the adapter.

This is why I made this topic, I don't understand why they don't say that on the manufacturers website / specifications.

Thanks for your help, will make the purchase and wait until it comes home and check it out.

Ok I can't hinder you, but why do you want to buy an outdated refurbished product? It's a plain waste of money. You get 60GBs which is near to nothing and you'll only get SATA II, means about half the speed you'd get with a newer SSD that won't cost that much more.

I think that laptop doesn't support SATA III, it's not that big of a deal really.

take in mind you will have around 20gb left, maybe less and im sure you will put ms office on as well meaning you will have between 10-50gb, get a at least 120gb ssd, its just worthless and stupid to get anything less then that, you will be shooting yourself in the foot.

I'm still crawling the spreadsheet but if you're right: Shame on ACER. Why should you build SATA II in a new laptop O.o. The CPU/Chipset combo should in theory support it.

Well even though it's a "new" laptop, notebooks tend to have really old and cheap hardware, including the SATA II connections. If you get a gaming orientated laptop, then it will have decent hardware.

Hey my Lenovo Ultrabook has SATA III and the MSRP is 50$ cheaper than the ACER one. So still - SHAME on ACER. Especially since SATA III doesn't cost the manufacturer more than SATA II. The chipset includes it anyway and the connectors are identical.
