Free VPN extension from chrome safe?

Are free VPN  extension from chrome which give 50- 100mbps speed for free safe?

i use

Don't use a VPN unless

1. You're on public/open Wifi
2. Need to circumvent a network firewall
3. Or need to prevent tracking from the network you're on (like school or work), or tracking from your ISP (for a VALID reason; not wanting them to see your traffic is not valid)

With that out of the way, don't use a VPN extension. at all. Never. EVER!

It's too risky. I recommend using protonVPN as it's free and is trusted by pretty much everyone.

I turn  on on vpn in chrome only when needed to access banned sites in my country, other times i dont use, so is it ok?

Again, I would never use an extension. There's just too much risk (just because it's off doesn't mean it's not collecting data). 

As for accessing region locked content, it's ok. I know for Netflix it can block connections coming from data centers and known VPNs. For YouTube or similar sites, it should work

Using a free VPN is worse than not using a VPN at all. Most of the time when a product is "free", you are the product. Companies gotta make money somehow and your data is the best way of making that money.
