hey guys! I've thought about upgrading my cpu (ryzen 3 3200g) to a ryzen 5 3600x, im fairly new to pc building but tried to figure it out, long story short. How do I know if I have to update my bios. I've done some research on my motherboards website and found that the latest bios release was released 2019-08-14, but how can i tell what bios im currently running on? is that by going on to cpu-z?

You find what bios you have in the bios. Probably by hitting del, of one of the f keys on boot.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Check the CPU compatibility list then compare it to your BIOS version. A BIOS update may not be necessary and in some instances not recommended.
