ASUS GPU Tweak problems

Hi everyone, first off, thank your time and help.

I have a problem with ASUS GPU Tweak, I was using it when I first got my PC years ago with a GTX 660ti but since then I switched to a 1060 6gb (most of my other components have also changed).

I've never had a problem with the 660ti up until I plugged to monitor and it kinda melted (I know, cooling is important). After getting a 1060, the first thing I noticed is that every time I boot my PC, everything launches and opens smoothly but when I start doing some task manager (browser or games) my PC stutters with about 0.1 FPS for between 5 to 15 minutes. During this time I just wait it out, then screen turns to black then back on and everything is all good until I power it off and turn it back on the next time. Basically I let my PC run most of the time to avoid this issue because once it gets throught, its good.

I say that GPU Tweak is the issue because when the program launches on boot, the boost and memory clock are both at odd numbers (661 mhz and 8890 mhz respectively). I have to set them both to the lowest settings manually possible everytime I lauch my PC (1771 mhz and 8008 mhz respectively). I tried modifying the values to get a higher boost but it blue screens my PC after a couple of minutes.

I also tried reinstalling the program but it blue screened my PC during the install. Same goes for uninstalling it.

I've dealt with this issue for a couple of years and it doesnt really bother me, but i'm looking into a new GPU and I worried the issue is gonna carry trought.

Thank you for your help and tell me if more info is needed.

Cleaned your PC of the old GPU driver and clean install a new one right? That sounds like a driver issue imo.

I mean tbh cooling would probably be better without Asus GPU tweak and just with the Nvidia driver

If you really want to OC tho maybe just try MSI afterburner or something better

Hey, thank you for the reply.

What would you recommend to do driver wise? I have MSI Afterburner installed but im not using it and my Nvidia drivers are up to date. Should I just tru to uninstall GPU Tweak?

Whether they are up to date or not doesn't matter. Constantly installing new versions over old versions can leave left overs which can cause problems. Even uninstalling with the built in uninstaller may leave left overs so DDU is generally the best method.

Use this to uninstall the driver: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

(You don't have to enter safe mode. You can if you want to but unnecessary, imo)

And then install whatever driver you want from here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/drivers/

Your issue just sounds like a driver issue more than anything. A proper uninstall and reinstall might solve the issue. If it doesn't then it's something larger.

Yes. The only GPU OC tool worth using imo is MSI Afterburner. Unless your GPU has certain features that are only supported in GPU Tweak, then use GPU Tweak.

Otherwise Afterburner suits most.
