Acoustic vs Thermal performance layout advice in be quiet! purebase 500 tg

The_PurpleShroom

Hello,

So I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some advice about fan layout optimisation/advice for my current build. Best case scenario, I would like a profile or loadout that is extremely quiet for when I doing work or something non-process intensive. With another profile for gaming where the acoustics of the system don't really matter as I have my headphones blasting anyways.

pc partpicker list at bottom of post.

I find that even when I set in bios my top exhaust fans the "silent" preset, that it seems to be the loudest component in my system. Although depending on GPU temps those fans tend to kick on even when the GPU is idling [it has a 0rpm mode by default], this is an issue that I did not experience in my s340 elite. My hypothesis for the reasoning behind the increased GPU temps both at idle an during gaming are due to the front intake fans either lacking the static pressure required to pull sufficient air through the fairly restrictive filtration setup on this case [I removed the bottom intake filter], or due to them monitoring cpu temps which are consistently very low at idle an during gaming not ramping up sufficiently also reducing air flow to the GPU.

Any tips/optimisation guides would be greatly appreciated [doesn't even have to be directly related to the topic as I love to hear feedback about my setup, and/pr setup reccomendations/optimisations]

Some other Important information:

CPU OC'ed 4.2 all core 1.2v.

GPU overclocked ~150 core clock ~675mem clock

Last night I was looking at this forum and I came accross Fan Control, the program made by a fellow forum member, would it be worthwhile setting that software up to monitor gpu temps for front intake?

Current Fan setup:

Front intake consists of:

Bottom int: 1 140mm silent wings 3 1000rpm model [I think in pcpartpicker it is listed as high speed model, but I don't see that listed on the packaging so I am assuming I do not have that model].

Top int: included 140mm pure wings 2  set to performance pre set in bios - monitoring cpu

Top fans 2x 120mm noctua nf-12a [currently mounted as exhaust, I experimented with intake initially, apparently exhaust is superior for gpu cooling an since temps increased in this case relative to my previous case the s340 elite I figured I would give it a go] Currently set to standard or silent preset in bios - monitoring cpu

Rear fan: 1x 140mm pure wings 2 [included in case] set to performance pre set in bios - monitoring cpu

Your temp issues are basically due to having a very restrictive ariflow case. Take off the front panel and most likely your problems will be fixed.

Yeah, I knew that going into the purchase [ordered about ~10 days ago]. The Dx model, was only available in white with no estimate for when the black model will be restocked. This is from pccasegear, which is like pretty much the only be quiet! case distributor that had available stock at the time of ordering [in Aus].

I would kind of prefer not to remove front panel though, due to there not being there being no dust filter inbetween intake an my components.

A quiet pc is achieved not through a silencing case as those only really work for lower end stuff before heating up too much causing the other parts to need to run their fans louder.

Silencing a gpu is just hard. The only effective way is to costum cool them.

Yeah that makes sense, normally I would have gone with a airflow oriented case. The only reason I did not, is because I wanted to ensure that I would have adequate cpu cooler clearance for either the noctua nh-d15 or the dark rock pro 4. This was the only case that was within my price range at the time, an was compatiable with my desired heatsink.

Maybe I could see if I can find a matching pront panel an try an modify it to house some front panel mesh. That would be sweet as. Do you think the 500Dx front panel is compatiable? That would be a lot easier of a solution if I could find one that would get shipped to Australia.

I will have to investigate.

I would not know about any compatible front panels.

Ok, I have sent be quiet! an email about compatiabillity, as even if I were to return my current case the 500Dx [the same case but with an airflow oriented front panel] the black 500Dx is sold out in every be quiet! case distributor in Australia at the moment.

So for for, it seems I have a few options.

1. take off front panel, jank rig some mesh to in front of the fans an just deal with the horrible aesthetic for a while.

2. Mod the existing front panel for Air flow.

3. if compatiable, purchase 500dx front panel.

Is there anything else regarding my setup that you think could be optimised?

Since intake is your biggest issue, I would move both Noctua's there. On exhaust side, since you already have big air cooler, you could just have single fan. More fan = more noise.

About a day after this post I realised that the reason for the constant loud fan noise has been my PSU fan. Lol. So I have ordered a corsair RM 750x 2018.

Do you think the Noctua fans will provide superior static pressure relative to the silent wings 3 an pure wings 2 140mm fans, allowing greater intake through the front panel mesh?

On paper, yes. I have no personal experience from either.

Ah ok. When the new psu arrives I will evaluate the acoustics.

I also contacted be quiet!, they said that the front panel for the pure base 500Dx is slightly different, an therefore not compatiable. So I asked if I could purchase an additional panel for the pure base 500, so I can attempt a front panel ventilation mod.
