Cloning an ssd software advice?

Hi, my operating drive is an old ssd and it gets a windows repair thing pop up sometimes on boot.

I have bought a new ssd as i think this one is dying or not the most reliable anymore and I want to clone the old drives data over to the new one (both the same size)

What software would you recommend? I have looked at Acronis, but i dont know much about this area of software and wanted some advice as its data, cant be to careful on keeping it safe

 

 

 

Also if you have an idea of what is happening to the old drive let me know as its not just stopped working like i thought an ssd would its kind of just every other boot it has a repair thing popup. I have run multiple malware scans so i dont think its that (a mate mentioned it as a possibility).

try macrum reflect, I have used it a few times and it works well.

 

What does the smart data say for the current drive?

 

Did you try a reinstall?

 

Its probably best to do a reinstall not a clone as there may be issues on the install that would get carried over.

I have tried a reinstall before but it didnt help

I would do it again but reinstalling all my software would take days (I have crap internet) so I would like to try cloning first,

Acronis is a good cloning software as well as Macrium.  I have used both without issue.

 

What SSDs do you own?  Some come with their own software, ie Samsung allows you to use their Migration Tool if one of the drives is a Samsung drive.

and a sandisk sata m.2 i got a deal on, neither showed any mention of software with it that i remember

I have used both macrium reflect and acronis, and they both are great softwares for cloning. Personally, I like Acronis a bit better due to the easier to use UI, but that is just my opinion. The nice thing about Macrium Reflect is that it is free, as opposed to Acronis. As @rocker0 stated, I would highly check what the smart data is saying about your old ssd, since the repeat windows repair prompts could also be due to corrupt boot files. This happened to me on an Alienware laptop my brother owns with a Samsung 960 Pro SSD. I did a clean install of windows 10 on the laptop for him and the issues were resolved after that. However, I can completely understand how annoying it can be to reinstall programs once you do a clean install. If you end up doing a clean install, I would recommend that you generate a list of programs installed on your computer prior to doing the clean reinstall. If you are using windows 10, you can use the wmic command in powershell. If you are using linux, you can use some form of grep command, I believe, to "grab" a list of programs on your computer. Also, if you are doing a clean reinstall of windows 10, please stay away from the current 2004 build. There are still a bunch of issues with this version of the operating system. You can use the program Rufus to "fetch" the 1909 build for Windows 10 for you, which I really like. Good luck!
