Remote workstation rig with Thunderbolt/Ethernet

Go to solution Solved by CAD-monkey,

so does anyone know what Linus is currently using to achieve this? he said he has a thunderbolt-only hub of some kind.

In LTT's latest video, Linus mentioned he remote's into his gaming rig via a Thunderbolt dock; the computer being in another room. I would like to do something similar and would like to know the product's recommended for such a setup. My house is prewired with Cat5e and has a large server rack in the garage. I would like to have my workstation/gaming computer in the server rack while having a proper home office setup elsewhere in the home. Dual 1440p monitors is all I use for now.

  1. Is there an ethernet hub which would allow me to remote control this computer, similar to the thunderbolt Linus uses (I could use more than one ethernet cable)?
  2. Is there a maximum cable distance away from the computer that either ethernet or Thunderbolt would have to be?
  3. Could I configure the hub to control power-on of the computer too?

Also, if you could recommend some bespoke rack cases (not from Newegg or Amazon) that would be great too; will add some flare :)

Thank you!

Budget (including currency): $2500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD Workstation primary, Gaming secondary

hi, I wondering exactly the same!

I would like to position my PC on a display about 5m ~ 16ft from the desk and all the peripherals.

What is the best way without needing to use a extension cable for everything and just pull a single one instead.

thank you as well!
