Alternative to Ryzen 3 3200G?

I'm building my dad an affordable office PC, and I've gotten all the components besides the CPU. My dad is only using this PC for office purposes; that includes things like Microsoft Office, third-party programs to punch in numbers (he deals with finance) and Google Chrome.

I ordered the Ryzen 3 3200G off Amazon on June 24th and it was set to deliver in 4 days, however they've pushed it back twice now and are asking for my approval yet again to have it delivered by August 7th; I've given up on it at this point.

I was originally pairing the Ryzen 3 3200G with a MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard and a 400W power supply.
However now that I've chosen to find another CPU - and the prices of CPU have gone up since then (I'm trying to stay within the $75-90 CPU range I was initially within) - I've been thinking of getting the AMD Athlon 220GE.
It goes for $80 on Amazon, which is only $7 cheaper than the Ryzen 3 3200G when I bought it - so it's in a similar ballpark regarding pricing.

Does anyone know if there is a better alternative that could work with the motherboard I've already received?

ryzen 3 4200g is coming out soon, so it should push the price of the 3200g right down.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

If the price is that close between the 3200g and the athlon don't even consider the athlon

As for alternatives.  The 2200g really and maybe find a 3000g which goes for around 50 bucks.

I have a 200 and 220ge. Both with 3 core Vega graphics, so it's enough to put up a screen and some basic gaming. Comes with 2 cores 4 threads. Will operate In Any board and great for updating bios on boards that need it to support new gen cpus.

I would recommend an AMD A10 9700 that comes with a decent APU which will definitely help out your system if it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, currently sells for $89 on Newegg with free shipping:

AMD A10-9700 Bristol Ridge Quad-Core 3.5 GHz Socket AM4 65W AD9700AGABBOX Desktop Processor Radeon R7

The pricing isn't that close anymore. Not only is the Ryzen 3 3200G $100 instead of the $87 I bought it at, it's also out of stock on Amazon (until August 11th, Newegg and Micro Center.

My dad is gonna use this PC for his work too and I had intended for it to be built by last Tuesday, so I'm not too keen on waiting until August 7th for the currently delayed CPU to ship, or until August 11th to even re-order it.

The Ryzen 3 2200G is even more expensive on Amazon and Newegg from what I'm seeing right now, but I just did a basic search. And by 3000G, did you mean the Athlon 3000G, I can't find anything listed as a Ryzen 3 3000G.

The used options off Ebay all still require bidding for 5+ days and the one used offer on Amazon is going for $158, crazily enough. Someone suggested getting the Athlon 3000G, and I can order one from a Walmart to be delivered by this Friday, so I'm most likely going to take that offer.

It should be more than enough for basic everyday uses.

For a basic office computer, an A10 9700 is an excellent choice for a good quad-core processor at the moment. I would have recommended a Ryzen 3 3200G instead since it is significantly better, although it seems that the OP is having issues with getting one delivered.

@tahmid10, I would consider looking into a Ryzen 5 3400G if you want something better than the A10 9700 or even worse the dual-core athlons, it's $150 USD currently so I have to agree that it's a bit high on the pricing, although at the moment it may be the only option for better performance on the AM4 socket if you are having trouble getting a 3200G.

What is the cost on the Athlon 3000G, if it's not that much lower, I would recommend the A10 9700 since you're getting double the cores (2 cores to 4 cores) and it has R7 integrated APU graphics?:

Like others have mentioned, I'd try to find a used 2200g or 2400g - They aren't at all bad. Athlon 300ge or Athlon 3000g are fine for light gaming...

The Athlon 3000G goes for $66 and change on Walmart and Newegg, so it's cheaper than the A10 9700 as well. Even if the A10 is better, I might just opt for the 3000G because it saves my dad more money and can still get the job done.

IMO, The 3000g is the way to go. Unless you insist on buying new, a used 2200g or 2400g is even better for around that price. 😃

Okay, I have done some research and was able to find it slightly cheaper at the moment on these sources (B&H is the cheapest at $59.99, although is on back order):

buy a 2200g or 2400g rather than the athlon. Theres very little difference between 2200 and 3200.

The athlon loses you two cores and gives you a poorer GPU.
