hello, just wondering if anyone has dealt with a similar situation to mine. i made a stupid mistake, and long story short, broke two fan blades right off of one of my gpu's fans. it's one of three fans, and i was wondering if i could rip it out, and still run it decently, maybe arrange the remaining two in a better config? i currently have it still installed, but it makes a horrible noise at certain rpm's due to being off balance. i have no interest in replacing the fan, unless i find a very cheap one, as i am replacing the gpu when nvidia 3000 drops. thanks in advance.

You can either pop the fan off (youtube a video of someone taking it off your model, Im sure there will be one) and use zip ties and a fan header to put a fan in place to help cool, pop it off and leave no fan in and as long as temps are good who cares, and you could technically shove something into it (wad of paper, stop the fan from spinning at all) till it burns out but I wouldn't suggest that option tbh

You can get fans for those cards really cheaply on eBay, I wouldn't recommend removing the fan but rather breaking the blades on the opposite side of those already broken in order to balance it before the new fan arrives. I would not recommend running any graphics card with less than its total amount of fans.

this sounds like a decent strategy. i may go with that, or the blades broke off very clean, i am considering trying to glue them back on. but don't know if that glue will hold under high rpm, or if the glue would cause a worse balance issue?

And there you go. How many blades do you have left on the fan? Like 4 or something? Better than nothing, but you really should get a new fan on eBay ASAP.

7 blades now lol. i took a look on ebay, i can get a fan for around 15$, not bad, but they are all from china, and could take until September to get. i am replacing the gpu asap with a 3000 series card when they release, which supposedly may be September. temps are still great, 65c max under benchmark, so besides temps, is there another reason i should replace? or probably good until 3000?

Yeah, you are probably fine. Also, don't get your hopes up too much for 3000, analyze the competition before you decide to make a purchase.

i probably should look more into amd's next gen. I've always been nvidia, but since my swap from intel to amd was great, i should probably keep an open mind about a switch to amd gpu's.
