I wouldn't go for a 4670, I would get an AMD 6300 CPU or something for this price range. Didn't realize it was mITX

 

Don't get 1 stick of RAM, get 2x4gb, Ram comes in a dual channel set up.

 

With the last of your budget I would also get an SSD for your OS/main applications.

120/128 would be fine too... It's what I use, I have a few games, OS, Chrome, and I still have lots of room.

Does he really require that 1TB storage? I've been doing just fine with my 250GB , 232 formatted, SSD, and only now, after half a year, I am running into minor storage issues. (33GB left). Get him a 250GB now and then he can upgrade to another SSD or a hard drive later?!

yeah its good. 1 stick of ram to upgrade later,cpu that will last for years,small format. but cpu cooler is not needed.

Drop the cooler, use the stock, and maybe you can upgrade the gpu too

he will upgrade later to dual channel. its not like games uses all the bandwidth of single channel. you won`t notice fps drops with single channel. in games ram doesn`t really matter. and this is a gaming build. till he adds the other stick he is fine

If I were you, I'd get a Corsair CX430M, with such a small case you need as little cables as possible. I'm not an expert but it's some basic advice.

The Corsair cases are nice, and for a small build Modular is DEFINITELY recommended. Especially since it's only like 10 or 20 bucks more.
