Yes, the files on the HDD will remain intact including any operating system.

 

If it's a 3.5" HDD you will need a SATA to USB adapter that provides 12V from an external power source (a wall power plug). USB only provides 5V. If it's a 2.5" drive (like from a laptop) then it should work fine off the 5V from the USB adapter.

This one will not work with 3.5" drives without a separate "optional" power supply as mentioned in the description.

Yep! If you're using it for a 2.5" drive then it should work fine, typically they only require 5V.

The label on the drive will state what voltage it requires. Should list something like +5VDC: 0.5A or something similar.
