Hi all. I'm running the two sticks of ram in the pic (mismatch I know). I think it looks like the green one is 2400 mhz and the black one is 3000 mhz?

I've enabled xmp and they're both running 2666 mhz

From a cost effective standpoint. Is it worth selling the green and buying another black one?

And am I assuming those speeds correctly?

I'm running:

R5 3600

16gb ram

Gtx 1050ti

Remove the 3000, oc the 2400 to 3000, if stable...note the timings used

Then nonXMP, mode,...go full manual (select 3000Mhz) and use the 3000Mhz timings you found earlier from the 2400 stick.

Its likely the stronger stick will match the slower one, once you find out the 2400Stick limits.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Please guide properly.

1.2v 2400 stick may need additional voltage and then active cooling because it doesnt have heat spreaders.

And OP thinks its a good idea.... Oof

Its a suggestion/idea, not a guide..

Anyone can google Multiple Ram OC guides and follow it easier than what I typed.. its an idea to work with thats all.

If you were interested in Making Ram faster.. you SHOULD be googling the topic for those pros and cons yourself..

Ingraining the knowledge first hand not just reading a reply and tasking it yourself right away...

Its only wording, but you started to guide or shall we say suggest instead?

I hit the nail on the head from the get go.

Ditch both sticks buy a 2x8gb kit that come matching from the box to help eliminate possible hours of tweaking and testing 2 single sticks to accomplish an OC between them in a pair. One OCed the other underclocked and trying to make happy in the middle.....

Sry for my wording. But I hope you feel where Im coming from here. Just trying to save a headache.

surely buying the same type as the black one does exactly the same?

So if the memory modules are say 2 years apart (mind this is example) then no the compatibility between the two may not be there. The ICs (chips on the ram) could just simply be a different bin, thus timings (sub timings) may differ slightly and even the PCB could have been updated.

So getting a set, the sticks will be identical in all ways and even the ICs will be produced at the same time and will work best together.

Now I'm not saying another XPG stick won't work, but what if one stick is Micron C-die and the other is D-die.... you might have some compatibility issues from that. (again examples)

It's up to you which way you take this. I'm only giving you the best advice I can to help.

If you wanted to tweak the sticks, that's totally up to you. You can also chance another XPG and they might be the exact same.... you won't know until you try. So because of the above, I find it best to suggest a new kit.
