Why streaming systems need 8 core and 16 threads, while gaming and editing only needs 6 cores and 12 threads?

Do I need a capture card for streaming?

Do i need a powerful gpu to stream?

Do you want to stream from the same pc that you are playing on? If yes, you need more cores so that you can dedicate some to streaming and some for the game you are playing and some for whatever else you may have running.

You may or may not need a capture card. Are you using one pc for e everything? Is your camera USB? Then no. Is your camera hdmi based or are you using a two pc setup? Then yes.

Yes I plan to play and stream from the same but I'm streaming a baking event for the elderly at my mom's workshop, so not playing while streaming.

If you are just streaming video, you really don't need much at all for cpu or gpu.

As for the Sony, I believe that you capture over hdmi, so yes. You will need a capture card.

i have never heard of that in my life

if your question is why streaming needs more cores

it does not need to , you could use a hard ware encoder that is present on gpus

if your going to stream using h264 (so cpu ) the reason why it Might need more cores is because the cpu is encoding what ever you are recording plus its rendering what ever your playing / doing

you can use a hard ware encoder on the gpu for example which will offload all the encoding work from the cpu to the gpu

meaning you wont be needing the extra horse power from the cpu , and since hardware encoders dont affect performance ( because it is a different thing that is specialized to encode what ever you need it to encode )  you can not worry about getting a new cpu with a more cores ( even tho that does not tell the whole story )

By external you means USB? Anything from Elgato is goo. And even the professional stuff aren't that high. Some $150-200 at best. Depending on what resolution etc. you want.
